A little about me...
Professional Experience
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in late 2013. After receiving my registered nursing license, I started my nursing career at a skilled nursing facility in Phoenix.
In 2015, I began work as a labor and delivery nurse at a community hospital on the Navajo Nation, where I stayed for almost six years. In this role, I obtained my certified lactation counselor training and became the Baby-Friendly Certification Lead, where I learned extensively about breastfeeding support and was responsible for staff training, patient education and promotion of policies that supported positive breastfeeding outcomes. It was here also that I was introduced to “midwives” working in the hospital in collaboration with physicians. I admired how their compassionate care resulted in so many favorable outcomes, even in circumstances where pregnant mothers were considered “high risk”. While working at the hospital, I learned that Certified Nurse-Midwives were similar to Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants, as they have the ability to prescribe medication, work in the hospital and manage low-risk patients independently according to their scope of practice and State of practice. This inspired me to go back to school to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife.
In 2021, I graduated from Frontier Nursing University with a Masters Degree in Nursing. Shortly after this, I obtained my Certified Nurse-Midwife license through the state of Arizona and official board certification. My first job as a midwife was at a Phoenix birth center, being trained and mentored by other amazing midwives- both Certified Practical Midwives and Certified Nurse-Midwives. The birth center also offered home births to qualifying patients, introducing me to home birth midwifery. I left work at 38 weeks pregnant with my son and spent about 8 months postpartum home with him to meet my personal breastfeeding goals. I resumed work at a different birth center located in North Scottsdale, where I still assist when available.
Some of my personal journey...
My desire to start a mobile midwifery practice stemmed from one of the most emotional moments in my life- becoming pregnant with my son and desiring the healthy and safe delivery of my baby. I was fortunate to have midwives that provided much of the care I needed in my home. I desired Christ to be at the center of my experience (especially with all the unknowns) and I was thankful to have midwives who supported me in my faith. Traversing the pregnancy-labor-breastfeeding-postpartum experience for myself has taught me so much more than any text book could. I would be honored to support moms and families in the way I was supported, as this made for such a wonderful experience. My goal is to serve families with the experience I have been blessed with, to the best of my ability, in the light of living hope.
